Our trip from Lima to Santiago started with a 4:30am alarm for an 8am flight. I can’t work out why airports require people to queue and wait so much in a small space of time!

The view of the Andes from the plane was spectacular… it’s a pretty amazing planet!

Santiago has a completely different feel to Peru. It’s incredibly dry, and seems to have a much more diverse population which is reflected in the food and the music.

Our apartment is in the Barrio Lastarria (Lastarria Neighbourhood) in the centre of Santiago. It’s a centre for cultural activity, and is filled with museums, street art, buskers and markets. The apartment is very cool… 2 levels with a little patio on the roof with views of great street art that we can’t find from elsewhere!

A trip to the supermarket revealed a new offering… wine in a tetra-pak. Even though this area of Chile is known for it’s wine, I’m not keen to test the quality!

Sunday afternoon seemed to bring everyone out. Locals sell their craft jewellery, second hand clothes, and marijuana cake. Apparently marijuana is only legal at home, but no one seems to care.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is in the area, so we headed in for a look. There were some great pieces… more inspiration for Alex!

Final stop… Cerro Saint Lucia (Saint Lucia Hill). This provided great views over Lastarria, and towards the city centre and mountains. It’s hard to believe how close the Andes are!

Tomorrow is a day of sight-seeing and navigation of Santiago… searching for good coffee and Chilean dishes!
