There’s nothing like 30 hours between take off from Brisbane and landing in London to remind you just how big the world is. Thankfully, our friends at Qantas made sure it was a smooth flight and we arrived in one piece, and at the same time as our luggage. (Note: According to Alex, that sentence sounds like product placement 🙂
We arrived at Heathrow at 5:30am, and promptly dug through our luggage for additional layers of clothing and boots. There’s no question that the Aussies on tour are going to feel the cold, considering we rarely see sub-10 temperatures!  A quick intro to the underground and off to Earl’s Court to find our hotel, dump our bags, and make the most of 4 days in London.
We headed off to find a double-decker sightseeing tour (the ultimate tourists!) and happened across London’s most important tourist attraction… m&m world.  For those that followed our US blog in 2011 you’ll remember that it was the top priority in NY, and somehow it managed to score pole position in London as well…
The double-decker London tour was great way for tired travellers to get their bearings and learn a bit about London.  Trivia for the day… apparently if you’re in Trafalgar Square and Big Ben strikes 13 then the lions statues will come to life – Chookie in her Moose beanie was very concerned.
We were lucky enough to have clear blue skies for our first day, so we figured it was the perfect day to get on the London Eye.  I don’t think its something that you’d do more than once, but the views are stunning, and it really highlighted how low the sun is at this latitude.  I coped with the heights very nicely until the pod next to us appeared at the top – ugh!

We decided the walk back to Picadilly Circus didn’t seem too far, and gave us the opportunity to pass some of the major tourist sites, so off we hiked across London Bridge, past Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, through St James Park (hello squirrels and pelicans), and in to Trafalgar Square for a photo opportunity with the Lions and a Blue Chicken sculpture (see the similarity with our own Blue Chook?).  Final stop at m&m world for a treat before heading back to the apartment.

Of course, sunset before 4:00pm really threw the weary travellers.  Even though we were back at the apartment by 6:30, I reckon that we had all crashed by 6:32.  Literally.
A huge day, but you may as well start these things as you intend to finish them!
Love M & theBunch xx
